Is there a specific code for a myocardial perfusion SPECT/CT scan?

Q.

Is there a specific CPT® code for myocardial perfusion SPECT/CT scan?

A.

Currently, there are no specific CPT codes for myocardial perfusion scan that have the words “SPECT/CT” in their description; however, CPT codes 78451 and 78452 include attenuation correction when performed and therefore would be assigned for either SPECT or SPECT/CT. The codes and full descriptions are as follows:

78451  Myocardial perfusion imaging, tomographic (SPECT) (including attenuation correction, qualitative or quantitative wall motion, ejection fraction by first pass or gated technique, additional quantification, when performed); single study, at rest or stress (exercise or pharmacologic)

78452  Myocardial perfusion imaging, tomographic (SPECT) (including attenuation correction, qualitative or quantitative wall motion, ejection fraction by first pass or gated technique, additional quantification, when performed); multiple studies, at rest and/or stress (exercise or pharmacologic) and/or redistribution and/or rest reinjection
