Celiac, AMA and IMA artery scans are each coded separately

Q.

I’m trying to double-check to see if I am coding correctly. The celiac artery, superior mesenteric artery (SMA), and the inferior mesenteric artery (IMA) were all selected for diagnostic injection and angiography. All three injections are first order.

Would correct CPT® coding be as follows:

75726

75774 x2

36245 x3

A.

No, the celiac, SMA, and IMA are all separate vascular families. Per component coding rules, each is coded separately.

As such, report CPT codes 75726 x 3 and 36245 x 3. As always, modify based upon local payor requirements

The codes and full descriptions are as follows:

75726 Angiography, visceral, selective or supra-selective (with or without flush aortogram), radiological supervision and interpretation

36245 Selective catheter placement, arterial system; each first order abdominal, pelvic, or lower extremity artery branch, within a vascular family
