Coding fixed for x-ray of chest plus two or more abdominal views
We had several claims denied last year for abdominal and chest x-rays. Did the CPT® book fix the problem with those codes?
Yes, the parenthetical note in the chest x-ray section now states to use CPT code 74022 for a single view of the chest and two or more abdominal views. In addition, the code description was changed slightly to explicitly state it requires two or more abdominal views. The code description for 74022 is as follows:
74022 Radiologic examination, complete acute abdomen series, including 2 or more views of the abdomen (e.g., supine, erect, decubitus), and a single view chest
