Coding for bone survey on patient older than 12 months

Q.

When performing a bone survey on a pediatric patient that is older than 12 months but definitely not an adult, is there any other option besides utilizing CPT® code 77075?  Can or should we be charging a limited CPT code of 77074? Our image protocol is way less on a 2-year-old than an adult.

A.

If you perform a complete (axial and appendicular skeleton) bone survey on anyone over one year, then you assign CPT code 77075, regardless of age. If you do a limited (only axial, only appendicular, or just a few bones), then you would assign CPT code 77074 for anyone over one year, regardless of age.
