Coding for radiological examination from nose to rectum for foreign body – child

Q.

When assigning CPT® code 76010, what is the age limit for “child?”

The code and full description are as follows:

76010  Radiologic examination from nose to rectum for foreign body, single view, child

A.

There is no defined age. The American Medical Association (AMA)/ American College of Radiology (ACR) will tell you if the patient can fit on the 14 x 17 film then they are a child. But insurances define child in various ways for this code. Some to age 12, some to age 17, some to age 18, etc.
