Our facility would like to start performing a whole or full-body magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). For whole-body MRI scans should the unlisted CPT^® code 76498 be reported, or should each individual body part scan be reported?

For a whole-body MRI, report the unlisted CPT code 76498. We recommend confirming reimbursement policies with payors prior to performing a whole-body MRI as many do not reimburse for this service, or if they do so, it is for limited diagnoses only.
